Name: Jayne Price-Smith

Company: Helping You Settle

Jayne Price-Smith, from Great Sutton set up relocation business Helping You Settle in October 2015.

The business works on behalf of its clients to, quite simply, help get them settled in their new home in the Wirral, Liverpool, Cheshire and North Wales. The business can handle everything from searching for and securing a home, to helping clients familiarise themselves with the local area and sign up for utilities etc.

Jayne explains: “Property has always been my first love. I get a real buzz from the thrill of finding somewhere that’s just right. However, I appreciate that many others don’t always feel that way.

Moving to a new area can be very daunting, and finding a suitable property can be a time-consuming process and hugely inconvenient, if, for example, you currently live overseas. So our service makes the process easy for the time-poor and those lacking knowledge of the local area. We – quite literally – do all the leg work so they don’t have to.  Our typical clients are those being transferred to work for multinational companies in the area, academics and NHS workers – for example, nurses coming from overseas.

We’ve also just extended our offering to include a service for those searching for suitable residential accommodation for elderly relatives. From personal experience, I know this is almost always an emotionally fraught process, and it’s often difficult to separate your feelings about your aged parents moving into residential care from the practicalities. We can help families by listening to their requirements and assessing possible care homes on their behalf, meaning the process is as painless as possible”.

While Jayne has extensive experience in her field, one area she felt she needed to refresh was her knowledge in the day-to-day practicalities of running a business. She explains:

“Like so many other new business owners, I know how to do my job with my eyes shut, but I’m less confident with the day-to-day management of a business, such as taxation, legal structures and profit-and-loss projections.

This is where the Growth Hub have been really useful. My advisor, Frank Titley, really is a font of knowledge. He also acts as a brilliant sounding board for my ideas. And because everyone who works there has such extensive practical business experience, you know you’re getting the best possible advice. The Growth Hub is also great at signposting other sources of support, such as organisations which give out grants to small businesses, all things you may not necessarily know when you’re starting out on your own.

They also have a range of workshops and courses that people starting up their own businesses can take part in. I attended the two-day business course and not only learnt lots, but also made some great contacts too.

Knowing that I have access to the wealth of expertise at the Growth Hub has really helped me as I set up my business. I’d definitely recommend them to others.”
