Go-Ahead for £90m Congleton Link Road

A proposed new £90m link road in Congleton, which is expected to relieve traffic congestion and open up new sites for development, has been given the go-ahead.

The Cheshire East Council cabinet and its strategic planning board have both given the green light for the project. The local authority’s cabinet has already approved, in principle, a recommendation to underwrite a proportion of the estimated cost of the 5.7km route to the north of the town.

With half the cost coming from central government and a target of £23m from developers, the council will be left to meet a shortfall of up to £22m.

According to the council, the link road has the potential to create 3,400 jobs as well as attract new businesses.

The project will link the A534 Sandbach Road near its junction with Sandy Lane to the A536 Macclesfield Road near its junction with Moss Lane and provide a new village crossing at the river Dane.
