A Chester woman has seen her dog grooming business take off after hiring an apprentice thanks to support she received from the Cheshire and Warrington Growth Hub.

Chester based entrepreneur Sue Horsfield, has seen her business grow since setting up The Pooch Parlour in Vicars Cross almost four years ago, her skills are in such demand that she felt it was time to expand and take on a new staff member.

With local girl Lucy Maddock helping to keep the pups pampered and the business running smoothly – Sue is fast establishing her reputation in the dog grooming profession.

Sue said: “Starting a business is scary but I overcame the fears I had about going out on my own and becoming my own boss and I’ve made it.

“But I couldn’t have done it without help and support from the Business Growth Team at the local council and recent help I received from the Cheshire and Warrington Growth Hub has given me the advice I needed to develop The Pooch Parlour.

“Now that Lucy is on board, I can devote my time into growing the business and improving the experience for our customers – both the two-legged and four-legged ones!”

The Cheshire and Warrington Growth Hub understands the needs of local businesses and aims to improve co-ordination of local business support with national programmes, so start-ups and budding entrepreneurs can grow their own brands.

Lucy has secured her formal training via Reaseheath College and has been able to combine her love of animals and affinity with dogs to secure her future career which lets her use these skills and develop her business acumen and customer facing skills.

Lucy said: “I love working at The Pooch Parlour for Sue. She is a brilliant boss and I admire her courage at having started her own business.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I am really excited to be part of something great.”

A spokesperson for The Cheshire and Warrington Growth Hub said: “When we hear that our clients are growing their businesses thanks to the help and support they get from us it bolsters the work we do.

“Becoming your own boss is daunting but as Sue has proved it is not impossible and with Lucy onboard to further develop the business The Pooch Parlour looks set to become the premier dog grooming business in Chester.”
